Dear AYSO community,

In 1994 the United States made history by hosting the World Cup for the first time. It’s also when the four-member Husidic family, including seven-year-old Baggio and his older brother, escaped from Bosnia and Herzegovina as refugees, a move that would lead to a future soccer achievement – and journey – for the family.
The Husidics first arrived in Turkey, then Germany, but were moved on by changes in refugee policy and eventually made their way to the US and settled in the Chicago area. Following the family’s arrival, a social worker was assigned to the Husidics. This social worker happened to be an AYSO volunteer, and, after getting to know the family, she arranged for the Husidic boys to join AYSO through a scholarship.
Beyond the scope of her work or volunteer positions, the social worker arranged for AYSO volunteers to drive to and from the public housing facilities in Chicago’s South Side, where the family lived for six months, so the boys could attend training and matches. The boys also received gear and were fed meals on the soccer days through the generosity of the local AYSO volunteers.
Baggio is now a player for the LA Galaxy and recently shared his story with the media and at a volunteer recognition event for AYSO Palos Verdes Region 10, located in Southern California.
It is an unsung and unknown AYSO volunteer in the Chicago area that made a lasting impact for Baggio and his brother. This is one of the many inspirational stories that we continue to hear as approximately 10 million volunteer hours are donated each year to enrich children’s lives in local communities across the breadth of AYSO in our Regions.
There are many people or events in our present world that seek to divide us or our society. AYSO volunteers all inspire us for the betterment of the communities we serve and where we live. For this, we thank you. Your time and impact is an investment in the future of our children through your selfless service.

En 1994, la Copa Mundial estaba organizado en los Estados Unidos por la primera vez. En el mismo ano, la familia Husidic de cuatro personas, incluyendo Baggio que tenia siete anos y su hermano mas viejo, salio de su pais maternal de Bosnia y Herzogovina. Su viaje a los Estados Unidos incluyo tiempo en Turquia y tres anos en Alemania. Baggio Husidic, ahora un jugador profesional con el LA Galaxy, ha compartido su historia en las noticias y durante un evento de reconocimiento por los voluntarios en AYSO Palos Verdes Region 10.
Fue una voluntaria de AYSO (unsung) y desconcido en la área de Chicago que hizo un impacto muy fuerte por Baggio y su hermano. Ella fue asignado a la familia Husidic es su posición como un trabajdora social porque pudo hablar alemán. Cuando ella les concio la familia, ella arreglo por los dos niños a unir con AYSO. No fue un parte de su trabajo o su posición en AYSO, sin embargo, ella arreglo con otra gente en AYSO a manejar en sus coches los dos niños entre su apartamiento y la cancha durante los seis meses cuando estaban en la vivienda publica asignado en el lado sur de Chicago. Los niños Husidic recibieron equipo de futbol, fueron alimentados, y pudieron a participar en los partidos y el entrenamiento por la generosidad do los voluntarios locales en AYSO.
AYSO es la única organización en deportes para juventud en los Estados Unidos que ofrece entrenamiento para los árbitros, técnicos, y los gerentes. Otro organizaciones reconocen la capacidad asombrosa a llenar posiciones multiples por una persona y nuestra habilidad a proveer al Experencia de AYSO para nuestras jugadores jóvenes de futbol en un ambiente con el foco en el niño o la nina que es inclusivo.
Aproximadamente diez millones de horas voluntarias son han donado a enriquencer las vidas infantiles en comunidades locales atras neustra Organizacion en Regiones de 45 a 4500 jugadores. En estos dias hay muchas cosas y mucha gente que intenden a dividirnos y nuestra sociedad. Voluntarios en AYSO nos inspiran al mejoramiento de las communidades que nos serven y donde vivimos. Para esto les damos nuestras gracias porque su tiempo y su impacto es una inversion en el caracter future de nuestros ninos por su servicio abnegado.
