1997 Inductees

Ken Aston was a part of AYSO for more than 20 years. He started volunteering during the early 80's and continued to be active in the organization until his death on October 23, 2001. Ken was the man who came up with the idea of giving yellow or red cards in soccer. Ken had a significant influence on AYSO's referee program.

Howard Krollfeifer founded early AYSO regions in North Hollywood and Claremont. Later, he helped create the "Everyone Plays" philosophy. Howard was also responsible for securing incorporation and tax exempt status for AYSO.

Ron Ricklefs served as AYSO president from 1976-79. He spearheaded the move to purchase the first AYSO national headquarters office, now known as the National Support & Training Center. He was a national board member for many years. During his tenure as president, the AYSO girls program made its debut.

Don West served as AYSO president from 1982-85 and as a board member for many years. He was instrumental in strengthening AYSO's relationship with the United States Soccer Federation. One of Don's greatest contributions to AYSO was his role in forming the organization's goal to use soccer to foster child development.
