2012 Referee Spirit Award Winner: Ramdas Lamb
Ramdas started his AYSO experience in 1992 as the parent of a player, and then began refereeing in 1993. In 1994, he became a Board Member for Region 48 in Diamond Head, Hawaii. Ramdas has held a variety of positions on the Region 48 Board, including Age Group Coordinator for several age levels and Regional Referee Administrator.
In 1999, he started his path to National Referee Instructor – a certification that he still utilizes. Ramdas was appointed Section 7 Director of Referee Instruction in 2003 and continues in that position today. During the last six years, Ramdas has been the head referee assignor for two Section 7-hosted tournaments, the Kirk Banks Tournament and the Rainbow Cup. He also served as head referee assignor for the National Games 2008.
In his “day job”, Ramdas teaches religion at the University of Hawai’i, where he has been on staff since 1989. He also does counseling at the state’s main prison and runs a non-profit organization that helps provide education and health assistance to rural youth in central India. Ramdas, in the unique spirit of so many great volunteers, sees all of his work as having the same focus – help educate youth and young adults and encourage them to find a positive direction in their lives.
