How to Accomplish Player Development on a Balanced Team
Last week, Hey Coach
received an email from Everett, an AYSO coach trying to figure out a way to develop his skilled players and lesser skilled players in one session.
We received lots of suggestions from readers, here's one of our favorites:
"It helps to have an assistant coach and to work with your team in small groups. Whenever possible, align like players for skill drills and have your assistant coach work with you as you both walk among the players helping all of them improve their technique.
"In smaller groups, you can work with players of a vast degree of skill level, each player learning from one another and working together as a team. It is also helpful to give each player some personal goals to achieve that are challenging but achievable. Use these to match the player's ability and how they should be developing."
